Triple Play Q&A with Jonathan Grey

Hello, all!

Just as a little FYI, the idea behind the Triple Play Q&A is to feature erotica/romance authors to showcase their work, to give them an outlet to share a bit about themselves, and to have them answer three questions—some serious, some seriously silly—in an effort to get to know them better. For my first Triple Play Q&A in years, I’m reviving the series with fellow erotica author and friend, Jonathan Grey. Many of you may already know him from his blog—Grey Man’s Memoirs—and his short-form erotic fiction…and if you haven’t checked out his stories yet, please do yourself a favor and head on over there!

In addition to sharing content on his blog, Jon recently published a novel, Bound for Better or Worse. This is the first installment in his Bonded series, so be sure to have a look!

Welcome to the Triple Play Q&A, Jon!

Hello, Jaye, thanks for having me. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Jonathan Grey.  Yes, it is a pen name to protect the innocent near me since I am far from innocent myself. A fan of the D/s dynamic for decades, I’ve read a lot of it and done a bit with it. Writing for me always seems to dip into the power exchange inherent in romantic relationships. I also have a platinum nerd card in many areas: sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, movies, etc. I always enjoy a good conversation, especially with those of a submissive persuasion.

What does your writing space look like when you’re in the thick of a project?

The world is my office. I do some of my writing at home, but most of it is done at a small table in an eatery at one of my five favorite shopping malls. Why there? I love to people-watch. Ok, I love to watch female people. My observations at these Happy Places have often inspired characters or even storylines. I usually have my laptop open, food next to me, carbonated caffeine ready, and I might be wearing my BOSE headphones for some concentration.

If you were to perform karaoke, which song would you pick and why?

I performed “Sweet Home Alabama” at a bar in Austin, TX, and recorded it on YouTube. I share it only with a very select few. My favorite song to perform would be “Your Mama Don’t Dance” by Loggins and Messina. Why? I know it frontwards and backwards, and it always makes me laugh. My second choice would be “Minnie the Moocher” by Cab Calloway. I’ve done this on stage with karaoke backup…also on YouTube.

If you ran into your thirteen year-old self, what piece of solid advice would you give him?

“Dude, chill. It’ll happen sooner and better than you think it will. Pay more attention to being the real you and forget what others tell you is right.” That’s the printable version of my advice to self. 😉

Thank you, Jon, for joining me today for the Triple Play Q&A, and congratulations on your new novel! I’ve already got a copy loaded on my Kindle and ready to go! If your other fiction is any indication, I’m hopeful the next books come out quickly!

And thank you, dear readers, for stopping by for the segment. If you’re an erotica author (or erotica-adjacent!) and you’d like to be featured here, reach out to me via the contact form on my blog. I promise I won’t bite…unless that’s your thing… 😉

Triple Play Q&A with J.B. Crown

J. B. Crown MiniHello all!

I’ve got quite a special guest with me on today’s Triple Play Q&A author spotlight in that I consider him not only a talented author, but also a dear friend. While J.B. Crown and I may never have met in person, we’ve spent considerable time discussing the nuances of writing and erotic fiction, fond memories of our respective travels and well-executed office pranks, and why Romancing the Stone might very well be the most perfect movie in the history of ever!

After publishing a number of sexy, heartfelt erotic short stories, J.B. has just released his first full full-length novel—S.I.R.E.N.S—and it’s available on Amazon now!

If you’re looking for your next great read, or simply hoping to spend a few minutes getting to know one of the wittiest authors I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, look no further!

Welcome to the Triple Play Q&A, J.B.!

Hi there, I’m erotic short story (and now full length novelist) writer, J. B. Crown. I’ve been on quite a journey to reach my present life situation. People who ask about my background as an erotic author, are often dumbfounded when they discover I was once a church minister! My early twenties saw me temporarily leave my native England to attend an Evangelical bible college in the USA. From there I spent some time as a minister and missionary in the Caribbean, Africa, and back home. Between that and becoming an erotica author, there were fifteen years in policing and four as an independent consultant to the service. From chandelier-swinging bible thumper to literary-swinging smut scribe. There’s a fair story in the middle of all that, as you might expect…

I have written in different genres under other names. Erotica is a fairly new topic for me, and one that I decided to explore out of curiosity more than anything else. Originally it seemed like a fun vehicle for knocking out (pun intended) quick and easy ‘splooge lit,’ for those who just enjoy a bit of disposable titillation. However, along the way I found myself increasingly burning with a desire to get a proper story in there too, and take my characters further. My new work, ‘S.I.R.E.N.S’ does just that, marking a significant divergence from earlier pieces as a full-length erotic action/adventure romance novel.

S.I.R.E.N.S Mini‘S.I.R.E.N.S’ has a bit of everything: action, adventure, chases, escapes, gunfights, betrayal, revenge, hand to hand combat, big World War 2 set pieces, an accurate historical setting, romance, loss, sentimentality, hot sex covering a variety of tastes and topics, plus an ongoing central love story woven throughout.

It is often said that writers never finish their books, they only abandon them. As big-headed as this might unfortunately sound, ‘S.I.R.E.N.S’ is actually everything I dreamt it could be while formulating the concept. I am very happy with the final product. Hopefully my readers will be too!

The book gave me an opportunity to do something I have wanted for a long time: write a fictional, sexy adventure story featuring the women of S.O.E – the British Special Operations Executive formed at the behest of Winston Churchill to conduct clandestine warfare against the Axis.

The role of women in conflict at that time was largely communications, logistics and nursing; not front-line fighting. S.O.E. had around 3,200 female staff, many of whom became agents and made the ultimate sacrifice overseas in a job with a life expectancy of only six weeks. With 2018 being the year in which we celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage, it seemed the ideal moment for my project.

In the book, you will meet four incredible young ladies from diverse backgrounds and places: Elsa Vogl (Austria), Sophie Mayeaux (France), Jessica Martin (England), and Carlotta Bianchi (Italy). Their individual backstories and mutual hatred of the Nazis bring them together, just as S.O.E. are forming a special, dedicated female unit called ‘S.I.R.E.N.S.’ The squad is being created for one audacious mission that dovetails with the ‘Crossbow’ operations already being conducted. It is expected to be a ‘one night stand’ in every sense of the term, almost certainly proving terminal for the new recruits.

FUN FACT: My best friend and I once performed an emergency, rough weather light aircraft landing at Altenrhein airfield in Switzerland, which features in the book. Visibility had dropped to almost nothing, and a rainstorm swept across from the Pfänder in Austria (a mountain I have hiked down and which overlooks Elsa’s fictitious village). We came in too high, but there was no time for a go-around in the rapidly deteriorating conditions. Just as we put the Cessna down on the deck, a heavy crosswind picked us up at an angle and slammed the bird back into the tarmac. We were both okay, but it knocked out our landing lights.

Thanks for the candid, riveting introduction, J.B.! I can’t decide who I’d rather meet in person, your incredible heroines or you! 😉 And now it’s time for your Triple Play!

What does your writing space look like when you’re in the thick of a project?

I like a calm, reasonably tidy environment and usually write in my study. I’m not one for scribbling on bits of paper (though I used to be), typically penning rough ideas onto an iPad which sits alongside my laptop for reference.

If you want to know what my writing space looks like at the end of the current book, you will find a photo below. Sitting on the laptop is a proper Fairbairn-Sykes British commando fighting knife, as given-to and used-by the ‘S.I.R.E.N.S’ in the book.PC FS Mini

What are three things you can’t live without and why?

SOLITUDE – I’m an introvert and HSP, so it’s like air to me!

BUCOLIC SURROUNDINGS – I enjoyed my time living in Dallas and other places, but I suffer if away from the rustic environs of home for too long. I’m an English country boy from Kent, otherwise known as ‘The Garden of England.’ I live in a little country town that pre-dates the Roman invasion, and went to school on a farm in a picturesque valley near where Julius Caesar camped.

FISH & CHIPS – Once you’ve had proper English Fish & Chips, life is never the same again.

If you ran into your thirteen year-old self, what piece of solid advice would you give him?

My thirteen year-old self? That would have to be: tugging is a lot more fun when a girl is doing it for you! (Can I say that on this blog?)*

Honestly, I’ve often pondered a question like this. When I look at the choices I have made, I know my life could look a lot different (not to mention financially more prosperous) had I been given pointers by my older self. Yet at the same time, those choices made me who I am today. There are things I missed out on that others enjoyed, yet I have done more with my life than many of those people ever will. Classic: ‘you pays your money and you takes your choice,’ I suppose.

If there was a solid piece of advice for my thirteen year-old self, it would be this: ‘Time passes quickly. Don’t be afraid to try something new.’

Life naturally gets in the way, and mundane activities cause weeks, months and years to blur into one. That’s just a necessary part of our existence, unless you’re lucky enough to be minted and have servants! It’s when I look back that I notice life seems less ‘wasted’ as I reflect on the new experiences I had a go at. It can be something as small as visiting a different restaurant, attending an event I’ve never been to, trying an unusual hobby I might not have considered before etc. I’m the kind of person who finds comfort in the calm and familiar. Yet, it’s the times I’ve pushed myself out of that comfort zone (for whatever reason) that new vistas have eventually opened up with their associated joy and life rewards. It’s advice I still need to remind myself of.

Jaye’s Notes: Yes, you can. You most certainly can. 😉

Triple Play Q&A with Stella Blanche

29066346_2047874718870481_7284406096138076160_oHello all!

For today’s Triple Play Q&A author spotlight, I’ll be featuring my first author from the lovely nation of South Africa! Stella Blanche, author of Under His Control, is my guest today and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her join me! She’s going to be talking about some of her favorite reads, “researching” for her sexy books, kink, works in progress…you name it! She even managed to sneak in a shout out for one of the books I co-authored with Jack Crosby! What an honor! 🙂

Welcome, Stella!

29063327_2047874392203847_2531847478274162688_oI am from a very small town in South Africa—living amongst very intriguing yet small-minded people. I am married to the love of my life and we have two beautiful little princesses and a chocolate lab—who thinks he is about the size of mouse, but he’s a monster in actual fact…. I love all aspects of my life—even with all the ups and downs as it molds you into the person you are. I am a Sales Manager by day and erotica writer at night. I have been writing since I was twelve—although back then it was all fairy tales and garden gnomes type of writing.

Under His Control is my first published book on sale and I am so proud of this story as I have been working on it since 2015. I have a bunch of WIP and a few of them are available and FREE to read on Wattpad. I am currently working on a werewolf spanking book which would have you howling for more and I’m hoping it would see the light before the South African winter sets in. Another WIP I am also working on is a dark romance with a lot of hot guys, hot girls, and obviously some delicious discipline scenes. I hope to get enough followers to—eventually, one day—become a full time writer.

Thanks for sharing, Stella! Time for your Triple Play!

What’s the best part about being an author?

I’d say it is the fact that there is a piece of you out there in the world and when you pass onto the next life, there will always be something of you left behind. I also love that you can be anyone you want to be when writing—especially when you are an erotica writer. You can be wild or shy or promiscuous—you can live out any fantasy you want through writing, you can live through your characters and THAT is what makes it so precious.

29101469_2047875035537116_3611199543175020544_oCan you name a couple of your “desert island” books and why you chose them?

At the top of that list would HAVE to be the Masters and Mercenaries bundle by Lexi Blake. These books taught me so much about the BDSM world—it opened my eyes to a permanent ménage relationship and I read them at least once a month. Next one the list would be Wilbur Smith’s Warlock. This book was handed down to me by my dad because he knew how in love I was with anything to do with Ancient Egypt and it was the first book I read with sex scenes in—so there is that. And last would have to be Rules of the Wild by Jaye Elise and Jack Crosby. I was completely hooked on the TV series ‘Men in Trees’, that whole rugged manly men running wild in Alaska had me fantasizing A LOT and then this book came out and I could just lose myself in the pages.**

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I am a kinky person and erotic writer—I mean they know I write books with loads of sex in them, but I don’t think they know how much research goes into it. We read a lot of other erotic novels, we Google, we buy sex toys to write about and the best part is that we have to experience—the worst mistake a writer could make is writing about something they know nothing about or have never experienced… Luckily for me, Mr. B is just as adventurous and curious as I am so I never really have a problem living out my fantasies and “doing” research.

**Awww, shucks! Thanks, Stella!

Thank you, Stella, for joining me for this week’s Triple Play Q&A and for being such a candid guest! Triple Play Q&A with Tia Lee

28534586_395425887585187_1949056413_nHello all!

For this week’s Triple Play Q&A author spotlight, I’ve got author Tia Lee with me to talk about her debut novel and a whole lot more!

Welcome to the Triple Play, Tia, and thank you for joining me!

Hi! This is author Tia Lee. I am a self-published author and live in one of the most humid places in the USA: Houston, TX, but I love it here (sans the humidity of course.) My debut novel is Vermilion Tears. It is a Victorian gothic paranormal, that starts with a normal girl, until vampires, werewolves, and witches show up. I absolutely loved writing this book and it will always be my book baby. I am currently writing a novel about a self-absorbed mob wife, who has aspirations of being at the top herself. Not sure when it will be out yet.

Nice to meet you, Tiaand now it’s time for your Triple Play Q&A!

28696160_395425800918529_636601050_oWhat inspired you to write Vermilion Tears?

I loved reading Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and it inspired me to read more vampire novels. I read the Twilight series and then Dracula. While I was in the middle of reading Dracula I actually had this really vivid dream which is where the idea of Vermilion Tears came from. It was kind of terrifying from the dream perspective. I hope I captured it in the book.

If you were a character in a book or series of books, who would you be and why?

This is hard because the type of books and characters I love the best have rough lives. I’ll go with Hermione Granger. She is resourceful, smart, and fiercely loyal. Also, magic would be nice to control.

What’s your adult beverage of choice?

My favorite is hands down is Ménage A Trois wine. It’s a blend of three red wines and my new favorite they make is Midnight. It is so smooth and reasonably priced. They also make a chardonnay if you like white!

Thank you for joining me today, Tia! It’s been wonderful getting to know more about you and your work…and your taste in wine! 😉 If you’d like to find out even more about Tia, or would be interested in picking up some of her fantastic books, please click around the links below and go to town!

Triple Play Q&A with Magali Fréchette

Magali 4Hello all!

This week’s Triple Play Q&A featured author is Magali Fréchette, my favorite Canadian speed reader and hunt-and-peck typist extraordinaire! (You’ll get it once you’ve had a read…) 😉

I’m thrilled to have her join me and I hope you enjoy getting to learn more about Ms. Fréchette and her first novel, My Soul to Give.

Welcome to the Triple Play, Magali!

My name is Magali, but many people call me Mags for short. I’ve lived in three different provinces so far in my life (I keep heading west for whatever reason), but hope to one day move back to where I consider my home to be, in Ottawa, Ontario. Since completing my bachelor’s degree in social sciences with a major in criminology, I’ve had a total of four jobs, and currently work for the federal government. I’m also a freelance cover designer, and have been creating photo manipulations since 2007, and am self-taught.

Magali 1

Thanks, Mags! And away we go with your three hard-hitting Triple Play questions! 😉

What’s the last book you read that made you cry?

Hmmm…I don’t read many books that make me cry; it’s quite rare, actually. But I believe the last one I read that made me tear up is Ruler’s Concubine by Peri Elizabeth Scott.

When did you first start writing and what drove you to pick up the pen?

I used to write little comic books and small stories for as long as I can remember, but the first real story I wrote was when I was around twelve years old. It was my first year of high school, and I remember my French teacher (I went to a French school, FYI) caught me writing during class, and wanted to see me after. I showed her what I’d written, and after reading the first few pages, started telling me how I had a bunch of grammar mistakes, and basically tore it apart in criticism. I continued writing, but with less enthusiasm than before. I also started writing my stories in English after that. At fifteen years old, I started developing an entire universe of stories. The worlds and timeline, characters and plot. I wrote a bunch of manuscripts throughout the years, all of them just for fun. But my published book was my 19th manuscript and I really wanted to get that one published since it was the first book in that entire universe created so long ago. I’ve just always been writing, and I always will be.

Can you tell us about a hidden talent you have?

Hidden? Not much to say, really. Self-taught artist, and I’m good with advance math, my favorite being algebra when I took that in my last two years of high school. I know a good basic of HTML, and know a lot of information about criminology and psychology. I learn fast, and I’m a speed reader (around 100 pages per hour, and getting faster). Oh, and despite the fact I only type with both my index fingers, I can type 60 words per minute, and don’t need to look at the keyboard. Don’t know if any of those count. lol

Magali 3

Thank you for joining me today, Mags! I’m thinking you’re going to have loads of new fans, not only for your writing, but also for your HUGE skillset and passion about your work! 😀 If you’d like to find out even more about Magali, or would be interested in picking up some of her fantastic books, please click around the links below and go to town!

Triple Play Q&A with Rikki de la Vega

WomanReadingHello all!

For this week’s Triple Play Q&A segment, I’d like to introduce you to Rikki de la Vega, author of Peri’s Bliss and Hannah’s Healing. I’m so excited to host her and to share her feisty, witty, inspirational responses with you!

Welcome, Rikki!

Rikki de la Vega lives, lusts and writes in Boston, Massachusetts. Polyamorous, kinky, and a feisty intellectual, she crafts her erotic tales from real-life experiences with the goal of presenting good smut for smart people. An unorthodox sex-positive feminist, she is also an online activist for everything from sex work decriminalization to disability rights.

PerisBliss

Love it, Rikki—such a pleasure to meet you! And now it’s time for your Triple Play Q&A!

If you were a character in a book or series of books, who would you be and why?

My own character of Lila Jaworski, in the Free Spirits series, is one with which I identify. She’s vivacious, generous, and yet doesn’t need to be the center of attention to get things done. She also has a strongly intuitive sense of people, and none of the burdensome shame that so many have about sexuality and gender expectations.

HannahsHealingWhat writing project are you currently working on?

Right now, I’m writing Amalia’s Truth, my fourth book in the Free Spirits series. The series is set around members of the Free Spirit Connection, a fictional modern spiritual community which sees sex as another form of communion, even allowing members to get it on in private communion rooms. The title character in this book appeared previously, and in this book she’s attending the Connection’s Triennial Assembly as a delegate, not to mention having plenty of erotic encounters. But she also becomes the target of some unsavory rumors, and has to defend herself.

If you were to perform karaoke, which song would you pick and why?

Well, disclosure time here. I have a serious speech disorder, which makes it extremely difficult (even painful) to try to speak or sing for anything longer than a short sentence. So I let my friends do the karaoke thing, and I show my support to them by clapping and dancing. Anyway, if that weren’t the case, I’d be singing “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves. It’s so positive and high energy, you can’t help moving to the beat, feeling it flow through you. We need more of that energy, more talk about love and pleasure, less pettiness and “me-and-my-group-first” nonsense. And if you out there reading agree with me, do me a favor and sing “Walking on Sunshine” for me at your next karaoke night!

Well, Rikki, you’ve got it! “Walking on Sunshine” is officially on my next karaoke set list! Thank you so much for joining me today and for sharing more about yourself and your current projects!

If you’d like to find out even more about Rikki de la Vega, or would be interested in picking up some of her fantastic books, please click around the links above and below and go to town!

Triple Play Q&A with Willa Bradley

Hello all!

With me this week for the Triple Play Q&A is Willa Bradley and we’re taking a look at her debut novel, Harvest Moon Ride! I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to feature Ms. Bradley and her work, and I hope you enjoy getting to know her a bit better!

Welcome to the Triple Play, Willa!

Harvest Moon Ride -- CoverWilla Bradley lives in a remote area of North Carolina with her three wonderful basset hounds. Their days are filled with love and laughter. Nights are most often spent with the hounds basking in the firelight and Willa writing to put premium kibble in their bowls. When she’s not writing, Willa enjoys horseback riding, white water rafting, hiking with her dogs and baking from scratch.

And here’s a blurb for her debut novel, Harvest Moon Ride: Multiple world champion equestrienne, Etta Ross, has a dilemma. How does she rescue the small band of mustangs from the rustlers who want to smuggle them to Mexico for slaughter while avoiding a run in with the legendary Texas Rangers? If all she had to do was save the mustangs, her mission would be easy. But she runs afoul of sexy Texas Ranger, Brody Jensen, when she’s wounded and stranded on foot in the middle of nowhere. Not buying her explanation that she was out for a walk, Brody is bound and determined to protect Etta who is adamant that she can save herself. Brody is convinced that a few trips over his knee for a bare bottom spanking followed by his dominant lovemaking is just the remedy to Etta’s headstrong cowgirl ways.

Harvest Moon Ride is the first book in the Wild at Heart series. This is currently planned to be a four book series and the other novels are in various stages of the editing and writing process. In other words, saddle up and ride! 😉

And away we go with Willa Bradley’s Triple Play Q&A!

When you were growing up, who were the authors that made you want to become one yourself? What was it about their work that spoke to you?

Robert Ludlum, Leon Uris, Rosemary Rodgers, and Beatrice Small. Their ability to tell a story that transported you from who and where you were. The idea that heroes come in all sizes, shapes and sexes.

Have you ever had a moment (or moments) when you’ve considered giving up writing? If so, what helped you push through? If not, what keeps you motivated?

I came to writing later in life. I allowed other ambitions and goals to push the dream aside. What helped push me through was fellow author Piper Stone who went out of her way to encourage me and introduce me to her publisher, Blushing Books.

What keeps me motivated is the voices inside my head that keep whispering, “Excuse me, I have a story to tell.” I was a great fan of the TV Series Castle. The opening montage has Castle’s voice saying, “There are two kinds of folks who sit around thinking about how to kill people: Psychopaths and mystery writers. I’m the kind that pays better.” I feel that way about my characters, only my opening monologue would be, “There are two kinds of folks who sit around hearing voices in their heads: Schizophrenics and writers. I’m the kind that pays better.”

If you were an ice cream flavor, which would you be and why? 😉

Pecan praline. Rich and gooey and originating in New Orleans. It’s a bit unexpected, the flavor is complex and it tastes like autumn – my favorite time of year.

Thank you again, Willa, for joining me for the Triple Play Q&A! I hope you all have the chance to go check out  her debut novelHarvest Moon Ride, now available on Amazon.com!

And here comes your Triple Play Q&A with SE Berg!

When was the first time you considered yourself a writer?

I have been writing since I can remember. When I was little, I recall telling my sister a story and she would be typing it on an old typewriter. I found it the other day. I have boxes of stories and ideas for them. However, I felt complete as a writer when I hit the Amazon Bestseller list.

What do you listen to while you write? Or do you prefer silence?

Music, TV, or nothing at all. It depends on the type of book I am writing and of course the scene. Emotions normally come from music. I use television to aid in the background and assist in the mood of the book.

If you were any item on a buffet, which would you be and why?

The chocolate fountain. I feel like it is the one thing people coming back for.

Thank you so much, SE, for joining me today!

Please be sure to grab a copy of Dreamstealer today! If you’d like to find out even more about SE Berg, or would be interested in picking up some of her fantastic books, use the buy links above and/or please click around the links below and go to town!

Triple Play Q&A with Golden Angel

Hello all! It’s fun to get back to hosting the Triple Play Q&A in the New Year! To get things started, I’ve got the talented, friendly Golden Angel with me! Please help me to welcome Angel to the blog!

Tempting-the-Domme-v1.2

Hi! I’m Golden Angel! I’m a nerdy, theater-loving, Harry Potter obsessed, kinky bibliophile with a penchant for books about spankings, BDSM, shifters, vampires, bad boys, and anything in between. I love to read and I love to write!

My books tend to focus on alpha males and strong sassy heroines who probably like to submit in the bedroom (although rarely anywhere else).

Nice to meet you, Angel! And now it’s time for your Triple Play Q&A!!!

What does your writing space look like when you’re in the thick of a project?

Like my dining room table got taken over by a laptop and a lot of dirty dishes. =P No, but seriously, I often move out of my home office and into the dining room to write so I can at least be NEAR my husband since the home office is upstairs and our dining room is attached to the living room where he is. Otherwise, I would miss him so…

I also tend to go ahead and eat my dinner there so I can try and finish up my stuff in time to do stuff with him before going to bed. Usually play a board game or just snuggle.

PhilipsRules Bridal Discipline Promo Social Media Poster GAWhat’s the best book you’ve read recently and what made it exceptional?

Oh geeze… ask the hard questions why don’t you!

I read a ton and a lot of it is really fantastic. It’s not a new release but I FINALLY got around to reading Beyond Forever by Kit Rocha and it was just everything I wanted it to be. Kit Rocha is a hardcore favorite of mine and getting to read the early story of Dallas and Lex, seeing how they met, how their relationship progressed to the point where Beyond Eden picks up, AND having the world be so perfectly seamless… it was just a masterpiece. It’s not often you get to see how a character becomes a badass and they did an amazing job of showing us who Dallas was before he was THE O’Kane and the beginning of his journey to getting there, and working it so seamlessly into everything they’d already created.. I cannot recommend the Beyond series enough, and this latest installment in the O’Kane For Life was just so beautifully done to me as both an author and a reader.

TSS_AUDIBLEIf you ran into your thirteen year-old self, what piece of solid advice would you give them?

Okay, this is kind of funny because at thirteen I actually wrote my first book. I was obsessed with Christopher Pike and we were doing creative writing in my English class and so I started writing a really gruesome horror / murder mystery. My classmates ended up getting really into it and I wrote them all in as characters and let them choose how they were going to die—occasionally giving suggestions if they couldn’t come up with an idea. My favorite was the guy who wanted to be eaten alive by a horde of rats.

And then after that I stopped writing. I loved it so much but I didn’t see it as a viable option for a career. I’ve always been both very creative and very practical, and I just had absolutely no confidence in myself at that point, even though my classmates loved it. I thought they just loved it because I put them in it. So I didn’t write anymore because I didn’t think anyone else would be interested and therefore it wasn’t something worth doing and I focused my energies on other things.

Now where I am today, having been writing for a free website for over a decade and writing books for sale for about 6 1/2 years, I wish I could tell my 13 year old self to just write. To just do what you love, because even before I started selling books when I was making no money off of it, writing just made me so happy and I’m a little sad I lost out on that happiness for close to 7 years. Sure, there were other things that made me happy as well—theater, gymnastics, my friends, reading—but I do wish I’d kept up writing through that time, and not just getting creative with class assignments.

If you love something, just do it. Make time for it. It doesn’t matter if it never makes you any money or helps with anything else in your life; loving it makes it worth the time and effort.

Triple Play Q&A with Jack Crosby…and a Surprise!

Jack Crosby - 5In a world where a pantser and a plotter join forces over crappy puns, a mutual love of 80s movie montages, and amazeballs impressions of Harry Caray, there’s no telling what might happen…

So….yeah. I guess this pretty much sums up my friendship with today’s Triple Play Q&A guest, Jack Crosby. But would you like to know the best part? Might you be a little curious about that “surprise” I mentioned in the title?? (C’mon…you know you are!)

Well, okay then! The best part is that not only have we become friends, but Jack and I have begun collaborating on a few projects as well! What started off as a challenge/dare, quickly morphed into something infinitely cooler and more prolific. And, although we’re not quite ready to announce any specifics (I’m such a tease!), let’s just say that starting early next year, you’ll start to see the first of many Jack & Jaye projects!

We hope you enjoy our love for well-crafted, steamy stories (and our rampant idiocy) as much as we do!

But hey, after a build-up like that, how about I let Jack introduce himself, huh? Welcome to the Triple Play Q&A, Jack Crosby!

Jack Crosby - 2

Well, for starters, my name is Jack Crosby and I’m a mid 30s deviant from Philly. Important facts about me are I have a huge love of beer, bacon, and ice hockey. I also write totally off the wall adult themed books that should be taken about as seriously as the alien threat from Area 51. If you’re asking yourself how seriously you should take that, the correct answer is ‘VERY SERIOUSLY.’

In my free time, I am a computer tech for a company my father and I started a number of years ago. My home base is Chicago, but I’m hardly ever there. I’ve been fortunate enough to be published by three different presses: Bolt Publishing, Baronet Press, and Stormy Night Publications. I love my absolute crazy nonsense and hope I continue to entertain the readers for a good long time.

Jack Crosby - 1Oh, and by the way, is it cool to name drop here? Okay, good. I’m doing a few collaborations with the totally awesome Jaye Elise. You might have heard of her, she’s pretty talented. In fact, I’m 110% percent sure that’s what got me on this blog. That and my ability to Stryke* the perfect answer at any given time.
Hi all, Jaye here again. Although I usually don’t insert myself into authors’ introductions, I felt I should throw you all a bone and let you know that what you’re seeing here is a prime example of the aforementioned crappy puns. “Stryke” just happens to form a BIG part of one of our upcoming collaborations…and Jack just can’t help himself. Thank you for your patience and understanding. 🙂
And here we go with Jack’s Triple Play!
Of the books you’ve written so far, which is your favorite and why?

The Electric Mile, by far. It was inspired off of the novel Ready Player One and the movie Tron, except it also has a lot of naughty scenes, terrible puns, and unbelievable situations. Casey at Baronet saw my vision and let me run with it. And, as good as that one is, the sequel in my mind is even better. I hope to have that one out by the end of this year/maybe early next year.Jack Crosby - 3

What does your writing space look like when you’re in the middle of a project?

I’m sure this will be a surprise, but total anarchy. I have notebooks of ideas lying around, empty coffee cups here and there, and sticky notes for as wide as the eye can see. I thrive in chaos and my writing exemplifies that. So yeah, just what you’d imagine after getting to know me, lol.

A Ridiculosity Ray hits the world, rendering all things…well, ridiculous. From now on, you’re only allowed to eat one food item in one specific location while reading one specific book for the rest of your life. Which food, locale, and book would you choose and why?

Bacon in Key West while reading Fahrenheit 451. I mean how could you not love eating nature’s best and most primal superfood, in a land of calamity and amazing microbrews, while reading the foremost dystopian fiction book (or is it really???) ever to be written? I’d also be on the beach, complete with white drug dealer pants and fedora, well, just because. Sorry if that sexy vision got anyone flustered while reading this at work. 😉

Jack Crosby - 4Well, there you have it. The Man. The Legend. The Bacon. Thanks, Jack, for joining me on the Triple Play today! Oh, and if you thought he was joking about his deep, abiding love for bacon, please allow me to point out that Mr. Crosby has also published a bacon cookbook. Yup. That’s for real.

Now, let’s all hope the drug dealer pants and fedora aren’t. 😉
